The Chinese cellist Jian Wang is a master whose playing unites emotional depth with flawless technique. At the age of ten, Jian Wang was invited to play for Isaac Stern. This performance was featured in Stern’s renowned film From Mao to Mozart, causing an international sensation. A soloist, chamber musician, recording artist, and teacher, Wang was the first Chinese musician to sign an exclusive contract with Deutsche Grammophon.
This 11-CD edition brings together his recordings for Deutsche Grammophon, Universal Music Australia and Deutsche Grammophon China. The set comes with the original jackets and a booklet containing new liner notes by Jessica Duchen, based on an in-depth interview with the artist. The repertoire ranges from Couperin, Bach and Haydn through Boccherini, Mozart, Schumann and Brahms to Fauré, Elgar, Sibelius and Messiaen, and also features collaborations with renowned artists such as Maria João Pires, Gil Shaham and Göran Söllscher.
