Release date: 2 October 2026

To mark the 300th anniversary of the Stradivarius cello “The Marquis de Corberon”, made in 1726, a special Steven Isserlis edition will be released in 2026. One of the late instruments to emerge from Antonio Stradivari’s workshop, the cello is renowned for its exceptional warmth, depth and distinctive character. It belongs to the Royal Academy of Music in London and has been on loan to Steven Isserlis since 2009.

The Marquis de Corberon 300th Anniversary Collection brings together ten outstanding albums, revealing the instrument’s unique voice in music spanning three centuries. The repertoire ranges from Boccherini, C. P. E. Bach, Schubert, Mendelssohn and Dvořák to John Tavener, while also documenting the remarkable artistic relationship between performer and instrument.

Two substantial booklets complement the original album notes with newly commissioned essays. Steven Isserlis reflects on his life and work with this precious cello, Rowena Anketell traces its eventful history, and Barbara Meyer explores the Royal Academy of Music’s responsibility to preserve the instrument’s distinctive character and ensure that its voice continues to be heard by audiences around the world.
