With OK by me, Steven Osborne opens a deeply personal chapter in his discography. The Scottish pianist is renowned for the breadth of his repertoire and for interpretations that combine remarkable sensitivity with a distinctive artistic voice. The album brings together works, arrangements and improvisations that are closely connected to the award-winning musician’s own musical journey. The programme includes Liadov’s Musical Snuffbox, Poulenc’s Novelettes, Peter Maxwell Davies’s Farewell to Stromness and Meredith Monk’s Railroad. It also features improvisations inspired by Keith Jarrett and Michael Tippett, as well as an arrangement of Joni Mitchell’s A Case of You. Osborne’s own title track was composed spontaneously at the piano. The result is an unusually intimate recital, weaving together modern classical music, jazz influences, memories and musical milestones to create a highly individual portrait.
