Herbert Howells was arguably the most important and respected composer of sacred choral music in 20th-century Britain. His choral works are always seen in connection with his significant contribution to the Anglican tradition, but his settings of secular texts are no less remarkable. This album offers an excellent introduction to these works, including two pieces newly arranged for this recording by pianist Iain Farrington.
