Alfred Brendel: the artist; the intellectual who reinvented Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert and Liszt for a modern audience; the pianist who, after retiring from the stage, devoted his life to poetry and teaching; and above all: one of the greatest interpreters of the classical repertoire. Brendel's career lasted from 1948 to 2008: since 1969 he recorded as an exclusive artist for the Philips label, including some of the most profound and poetic recordings in recording history.
Brendel died in 2025 and his complete recordings for Philips and Decca are reissued in this 114CD edition, a tribute and appreciation of the exceptional pianist's life's work.
This limited edition was originally created in close collaboration with the artist and is thus the memory and discographic legacy of a great artist. In addition to the studio recordings, it also contains live recordings, chamber music albums and radio recordings. Includes a 200-page booklet.
Among the highlights: 3 cycles of Beethoven piano concertos (Rattle, Haitink, Levine), 2 cycles of Beethoven sonatas, all Mozart piano concertos (Marriner) and works by Haydn, Schubert, Liszt, Brahms and Schönberg.
