The fourth album in the London Oratory Schola Cantorum’s ‘Sacred treasures’ series, ‘Sacred treasures of Rome’ featuring six works by Palestrina in celebration of his 500th anniversary this year. While majoring on Palestrina, the album also features music by other Renaissance composers active in Rome in the Renaissance, including Allegri, Felice and Giovanni Anerio, Animuccia, Giovannelli, Marenzio, Nanino and Soriano. Uniquely, the average age of the Schola across all the voice parts is just 14. The choir gives boys aged 7 to 18 the opportunity of an outstanding choral education within the state-education system.
‘We might be back in St Mark’s Basilica in the late 16th century, so haunting and crystalline are these recordings by the London Oratory choir’ (The Sunday Times) ‘Beautifully sung … strongly recommended’ (Classic FM).
