Wiener Philharmoniker, Abbado, von Karajan, Muti Bruckner: Sinfonien Nr. 1 - 9
Product Type: 9CD Box
From the magnificent Bruckner catalogues of DG and Decca, Deutsche Grammophon presents the ultimate Bruckner set for the bicentenary celebrations in 2024.
Each symphony in the 9-CD edition is conducted by a different conductor, from Abbado, Böhm and Boulez to Giulini and Haitink, Maazel and Muti, Karajan and Stein. Nine reference recordings in their own right, but all with the Bruckner orchestra par excellence: the Vienna Philharmonic. With marvellous pictures and documents from the Vienna Philharmonic archive in the booklet.
Among the treasures in the archive are ten letters that the composer wrote to the orchestra. One of them is an expression of his euphoric gratitude after the premiere of his Eighth Symphony under Hans Richter at the Musikverein on 18 December 1892. "Deeply moved", he asks for permission to thank the conductor and the orchestra "with all my heart for the wonderful performance" of the work: "Hipp, hipp, hurray!" Other symphonies premiered by the Vienna Philharmonic include the Fourth ("Romantic") in 1881, the revised Third in 1890 and the second ("Viennese") version of the First.
This edition brings together 9 reference recordings by the most important Bruckner conductors, each with the magnificent Bruckner sound of the Vienna Philharmonic. Happy Birthday, Anton Bruckner!
