Orchester der Bayreuther Festspiele & Cornelius Meister Wagner: Götterdämmerung (Bayreuther Festspiele 2022)
After „Der fliegende Holländer“ (2022), „Tristan und Isolde“ (2016), „Parsifal“ (2017), „Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg“ (2018), the Grammy nominated „Lohengrin“ (2019) and „Tannhäuser“ (2020) this is the seventh installment of the exclusive, multiyear partnership between Deutsche Grammophon and the Bayreuth Festival. The Yellow Label is the exclusive audiovisual partner of the mythical Wagner festival, this year releasing Götterdämmerung as a physical set of 2 Blu-ray Video.
In 2022 Bayreuth Festival 2022 presented a long-awaited new production of Der Ring des Nibelungen, staged by young Austrian director Valentin Schwarz and conducted by Cornelius Meister. In his provocative new reading Schwarz turns Wagner’s epic cycle into the saga of a dysfunctional modern family, culminating in the concluding Götterdämmerung.
Cornelius Meister conducts a splendid cast including famous Bayreuth veterans (Iréne Theorin, Albert Dohmen) as well as exciting new stars (Clay Hilley, Elisabeth Teige).
Sound formats of the Blu-ray Video set also include a Dolby Atmos version. As a Bonus it also provides podcasts in English and German (27 min in total) with summaries of the four Ring Operas in the reading of Valentin Schwarz, narrated by singers of the Bayreuth cast (English) and well-known actors (German).
