On The Ring Without Words, Edward Gardner and the Norwegian National Opera Orchestra bring Richard Wagner’s four-part Ring cycle together in an orchestral suite of around 80 minutes. Lorin Maazel assembled the symphonic sequence from themes and scenes across the operas, taking listeners from the world of the Rhine and the gods’ ascent to Valhalla to Wotan’s farewell to Brünnhilde and Siegfried’s path from forging the sword to his journey on the Rhine.
The suite stays entirely with Wagner, Gardner and the orchestra explore the cycle’s dramatic and symphonic arc in this concentrated form. The album arrives as a 1-CD digisleeve ahead of the first performance of Das Rheingold at the Oslo Opera House in January 2027. The complete Ring cycle will follow there across the 2027 to 2029 seasons.
