Mozart’s genius, and the violinist describes their musical relationship as “incredibly inspirational. Everything works in a completely uncomplicated and natural way, and after we had played these sonatas in Salzburg, we knew at once that we wanted to record them. To perform these pieces with Kit is to embark on a wonderful musical journey.” And Kit Armstrong adds, "In the main, we have placed a great deal of trust both in Mozart’s music and in our listeners. We do not deliberately lighten the music’s countenance, simplify the equivocal, or apologize for any of its manifold characters. As often mentioned, the role of the violin in Mozart’s sonatas is more subordinate than it would become in the combination of violin plus piano from the 19th century onwards. However, we did not historicize in our playing; on the contrary, it was particularly rewarding to see beauties brought forth by later techniques blossom in Mozart’s music. When I hear Renaud render Mozart’s lyrical flights with all the sumptuousness and
refinement that modern violin playing can have, I am convinced: it is beautiful, and that is what matters.”
